What happens when a brand people have known for decades begins to outgrow the category it was built on?

For Celebrity Tanning, a longtime name in Arizona’s tanning industry, the shift toward wellness presented a new opportunity. What was once primarily a destination for tanning was expanding to include red light therapy, massage, recovery and other wellness services.

But evolving an established business comes with its own challenge. How do you introduce something new without losing the familiarity your existing clientele has come to know?

That became the starting point for House of Form.

Brought in to lead both interior design and branding for the company’s Mesa location, our team set out to create a more restorative, hospitality-inspired experience while helping shape the next chapter of the business.

One that would bring Celebrity Tanning into a broader wellness category, now known as Celebrity Tan + Wellness.

How do you make 15 minutes feel restorative?

Warm, hospitality-inspired interior at Celebrity Tan + Wellness designed for a quick, restorative guest experience.

Most appointments at Celebrity are quick, often around ten to fifteen minutes.

That became one of the most interesting questions behind the project.

The answer wasn’t to turn Celebrity into a traditional spa. Its convenience was part of the appeal.

Instead, the focus was on what could happen around those fifteen minutes: the arrival, the lighting, the privacy, the materials and the way the environment could subtly change how a quick stop felt.

Light became the bridge between tanning and wellness.

Soft yellow accents, warm neutrals and curved details inspired by light at Celebrity Tan + Wellness.

Tanning and wellness may seem like two different categories, but both share one obvious connection.

Light.

That became a natural starting point for the design.

Soft neutrals pull from skin tones, while butter yellow references sunlight without leaning into the expected visual language of a tanning salon.

Curves appear throughout the architecture and millwork, softening the space and creating a subtle connection to the body.

Together, those elements move the experience away from something clinical or transactional and toward something warmer and more restorative.

Doing more within a smaller footprint.

House of Form’s space planning for the compact 1,100-square-foot Celebrity Tan + Wellness location in Mesa.

The Mesa location is only 1,100 square feet.

Within that footprint, the plan needed to accommodate five tanning rooms, three spray-tan rooms, two red light therapy rooms, massage, retail, reception and waiting areas.

With large equipment and very little room to waste, the challenge wasn’t simply fitting everything in.

It was making sure the space still felt calm and considered.

Curved plaster forms soften the entry. Solid light-wood doors replace the folding partitions used in previous locations, creating greater privacy. Built-in seating gives each treatment room a more intentional feel, while warm lighting through the hallway makes circulation part of the experience.

At the front, a sculptural retail wall and wavy butter-yellow reception desk bring more personality into the space while reinforcing the larger visual story.

Evolving the brand alongside the space.

The physical environment was only one part of the shift.

House of Form also developed a new name and visual identity, helping transition Celebrity Tanning into Celebrity Tan + Wellness to better reflect the company’s expanding services and direction.

For a family-owned business with generations of history and an established clientele, the goal wasn't to start from scratch. Recognition mattered.

The challenge was creating a fresh look and identity that reflected where the business was headed without losing the familiarity people already knew.

That thinking extended beyond the interiors into the broader brand experience, including Celebrity’s new website, bringing the updated identity, wellness offerings and digital guest experience together under one cohesive direction.

Designing for what comes next.

Celebrity Tan + Wellness branding by House of Form, evolving the established tanning brand toward wellness.

This project was never only about one location.

The larger opportunity was to create a direction Celebrity could continue building from as its wellness offering expands.

That meant thinking beyond finishes and furniture to how the concept could support future locations, marketing and the overall customer experience.

For us, that is often where design becomes most valuable.

Not just changing how a space looks, but helping a business make the next version of itself feel clear.

For Celebrity Tan + Wellness, that next version still moves quickly.

It just gives those fifteen minutes a little more room to breathe.
